Hash Brown
Hash browns or hashed browns are a simple and popular
American breakfast dish in which potatoes are pan-fried after being shredded. Originally,
the full name of the dish was "hashed brown potatoes" (or
"hashed browned potatoes"), of which the first known mention is by
American food author .Hash browns first started showing up on breakfast menus
in New York City in the 1890s, and some regions (e.g. South-eastern Michigan),
hash browns may be listed on restaurant menus as home fries. Hash browns are a
staple breakfast food at diners in North America, where they are often fried on
a large common cooktop or grill.
This dish is very easy and really delicious with very few
ingredients which we all have at home. I often make this breakfast for my hubby
as he is taste buddy and he like to have different cuisine of different
countries. This dish is quite light yet filling. So let’s begin
Ingredients: -
2 medium potatoes, shredded
½ medium onion, finely chopped
1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp. Corn flour
Garlic Powder ( or grated garlic)
1 egg
oil as needed
1 pinch salt and pepper to taste
Method: -
1.
Rinse shredded potatoes until water is clear,
then drain and squeeze dry (you can use Muslin Cloth to squeeze potatoes).
Place Potato shreds in a bowl, and mix in the onion, flour and egg until evenly
distributed.
2.
Now add spices like salt, Black pepper, Chili
flakes and garlic powder.
3.
Now take a non-stick pan and Greece the pan with
oil (1 Tsp will be enough to Greece the Pan) When the pan is hot, place
potatoes into the pan in a 1/2-inch-thick layer. Cover the whole bottom of the
pan, or make separate piles like pancakes. Cook until nicely browned on the bottom,
then flip over and brown on the other side. It should take at least 5 minutes
per side. If you are cooking them in one big piece, it can be cut into quarters
for easier flipping.
4.
Remove from pan, and serve immediately with
green chutney or Ketchup.
Tips By Nisrin
Try to keep your potato in the pan of small size as shown above picture.
Cook it on medium flame so that it will cook properly and try to crisp them as it will taste more good.
Please don't add much spices as it will kill the taste of potatoes .
Many of you are not eating egg .If you don't want to use EGG than you can skip it and grind the onion and add that to the mixture (don't add water to grind onion).
